Visual Strategy Map: (Duration 3-5 months)

Visual Strategy Map clearly outlines the big picture and context of the business; integrates initiatives and messages and shows how everything fits together and makes sense.

Furthermore, by making use of a concrete analogy, the Map simplifies complex issues, which results in understanding, memorability and retention. (The pre-quel to the Map is the Listening Sessions Feedback Visual which enhances the buy-in and credibility and ultimate legitimacy of the Map as well as the leadership). Part of the Map process involves us working together with you to develop a customised Leadership Conversation Manual which equips leaders to have interactive and effective ongoing strategic conversations with their teams. It is during these conversations that every employee has the opportunity to “find him/herself” in the Map thereby making the connection between the corporate strategy and the What’s In It For Me?

Why visual strategy maps work!

Visual Strategy Maps have been proved to be among the most effective tools in terms of successfully communicating strategy messages. As such they are streets ahead of briefs, emails and once off events.

Well – documented research shows why. People remember:

  • Only 10% of what they read
  • 20% of what they hear
  • 30% of what they see and hear
  • 90% of what they say as they talk about something they see

Visual Strategy Maps are thus designed around two main principles:

  1. Firstly, the power of visual to communicate abstract concepts (like “strategy”, “vision”, “values”) and enhance their memorability; and
  2. Secondly the power of a dialogue/ conversation about the visual. This drives engagement, initiates and ultimately cements the internalization process and results in mobilization and action.
    As a result of this innovative way of communicating strategy, employees understand the “big picture”, their role in it and ultimately what they need to do to deliver it.
